The Southwest institute of
applied magnetism of China

The Southwest institute of applied magnetism of China has been manufacturing rare earth cobalt magnets since 1974, The completely integrated manufacturing operations include preparation of the magnet alloy by induction melting in a controlled inert gas atmosphere, crushing, milling, pressing in a magnetic field, sintering, anneal, grinding, magnetizing, stabilizing and inspection.

Our magnets, based on alloys of cobalt and samarium and other rare-earth metals, have a unique complex of characteristics: high-energy product and intrinsic coercive force and stability in case of temperature and demagnetization effects, Temperature coefficients can be controlled to parts per million accuracy. Our magnets have proven to be especially valuable for traveling wave tubes and aircraft motors where magnet operating temperatures can be as high as 300¡æ and where uniformity, temperature stability and performance consistency are essential to end product success.

SIAM owns the technology of making magnets of any form: discs, prisms, rings, segments. Magnet sizes produced range from 4mm diameter to 60mm diameter with sizes from 8mm diameter to 30mm diameter being the preferred size for high volume production. Rectangular shapes of similar cross-sectional area also produced. The maximum size in the direction of magnetization is 51mm.

SIAM is oriented to the specialty high-energy high stability magnet requirements. One particular application that is now benefiting from the stability of SIAM magnets is a accelerometer with a drift rate ranging from 1 to 6 PPM/month. Other applications include microwave tubes, gyro, electric motors, high speed flip-flop rotors, microwave devices, microwave circulators, measuring instruments, magnetic bearings, Faraday rotation assemblies, high speed printers, magnetic drivers, aircraft generators and sensors.
